3 consejos atípicos (2 de 3 son atípicos). Son parte del discurso de Adrian Tan en la graduación de la NTU (Nanyang Technological University, de Singapur) en el año 2008. El hombre (abogado y escritor) también es el autor del libro «The Teenage Textbook» (1988).
El discurso me lo pasó Pato, me pareció espectacular y se puede leer completo en inglés (me crecería la barba en el proceso de traducirlo, y moriría antes de terminar). Aunque yo tampoco es que sea el nuevo Shakespeare (y me cueste leer en inglés), el hecho de que venga recomendado por Pato me dio el empujoncito necesario para leerlo, así que acá los empujo yo también.

Don’t Work: «Find that pursuit that will energise you, consume you, become an obsession. Each day, you must rise with a restless enthusiasm. If you don’t, you are working.»
Be hated: «It’s not as easy as it sounds. Do you know anyone who hates you? Yet every great figure who has contributed to the human race has been hated, not just by one person, but often by a great many. That hatred is so strong it has caused those great figures to be shunned, abused, murdered and in one famous instance, nailed to a cross.
One does not have to be evil to be hated. In fact, it’s often the case that one is hated precisely because one is trying to do right by one’s own convictions. It is far too easy to be liked, one merely has to be accommodating and hold no strong convictions. Then one will gravitate towards the centre and settle into the average. That cannot be your role. There are a great many bad people in the world, and if you are not offending them, you must be bad yourself. Popularity is a sure sign that you are doing something wrong.»

En serio que es muy bueno el discurso completo. Al que tenga ganas de hacer el esfuerzo de leerlo, le recomiendo que lo haga. Y al que no, le recomiendo que las tenga. 😛
Muy bueno Milton, voy a tratar de leerlo completo. Justo hoy leía la carta de suicidio de Favaloro (yo cuando jodo, jodo!) y el tipo hablaba de eso, de que era imposible ser honesto, que no se lo habían perdonado nunca hasta que lograron destruirlo. Y eso tiene mucho que ver con tema de «be hated», muy groso.
